Please reach us at envoyvet@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
While euthanasia plans are unique and customizable, they share some basic procedures. First, when you are ready, your pet will be given a medicine that will result in deep sedation relieving them of stress, anxiety, and pain. It may take a few moments for the sedation to take full effect but in most cases less than 10 minutes. Next, a second medication will be given stopping the functions of the heart. Dr. Busch will confirm that death has occurred by listening to the heart. Upon confirmation of death and if requested, we will leave you with a portable doorbell and respectfully let ourselves out. Whenever you are ready, you may ring the doorbell to request we begin preparing your pet for after-death body care.
Upon our return, we will confirm if you would like us to make ink paw and/or nose print of your pet or collect a lock of hair for you. We will then begin the process of preparing your pet's body for transport or ready them to be buried or cremated. Keep in mind that at any time during this process, you are welcome to request additional private time with your beloved pet. We are here to support you, your family, and your pet, and welcome and encourage you to ask for any changes to the standard visit that you may want or need.
Envoy Vet makes every effort to provide an experience that is customized to your family and pet's preferences. We are happy to welcome any family members, including other pets and children, who wish to be present.
We are happy to provide this service in the location that best fits your family and pet’s needs, such as outside under a favorite tree, in a park, on the couch, or any other favorite location.
If you are planning an outdoor euthanasia service, please let our staff know ahead of our arrival so that we may plan accordingly.
We encourage having your pet's favorite toys, food items, and blankets or bed available during this time. If you have a preference, you may choose to have soothing music playing or we can play the song(s) of your choice.
This can be a difficult question to answer because there are many factors to consider. The Ohio State University, Veterinary Medical Center has many wonderful resources to explore when considering end of life care for your pets.
